TECH NEWS – This could spell the end for a popular graphics card, even though there is clearly still demand for it.
The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB is the most reasonable choice under $450, along with the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB. Yet, it is always this GPU that receives bad news first. Last month, we learned that Nvidia might reduce the supply of the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB because of a GDDR7 memory shortage affecting the entire GeForce RTX 5000 series. Now, we’ve learned that Nvidia may halt production of the GPU altogether in the coming days.
This information came from Board Channels. According to the site, Nvidia may modify its RTX 5060 Ti product strategy due to a significant increase in memory prices. Since the card is available in 8 GB and 16 GB versions, Nvidia will likely target the 16 GB version due to higher costs. The company may continue manufacturing only the 8 GB card and discontinue the 16 GB version to ensure an adequate supply of the RTX 5070 series.
The GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti have 12 GB and 16 GB of VRAM, respectively. This mid-range category is crucial for Nvidia to compete with AMD products, such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070. Since the latter cards have 16 GB of VRAM, Nvidia clearly does not want to lose the mid-range battle. Therefore, to ensure an adequate supply of the RTX 5070 series, Nvidia may temporarily suspend production of the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB.
This is contrary to Nvidia’s original plans, as the 16 GB version is performing well in the market. However, higher VRAM prices may affect not only the RTX 5060 Ti but also the entire RTX 5000 series, whose production is reportedly set to decline significantly.
