The Assassin’s Creed Series Finally Finds Its Direction

MOVIE NEWS – Netflix’s long-gestating live-action Assassin’s Creed series is beginning to look genuinely promising. After five years in development, the project is edging closer to production, bolstered by the arrival of a director whose reputation alone raises expectations.

Over the past few days, details about the cast of Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series have been slowly emerging. The project has been in development for more than five years, and until now individual casting announcements were easy to overlook while waiting for something more substantial. The newly revealed choice of director, however, changes the picture entirely.

The series will be directed by Johan Renck, the Swedish filmmaker best known for HBO’s Chernobyl, a miniseries widely regarded as one of the finest ever produced and a project that earned him an Emmy Award. Renck will oversee this high-budget adaptation of Ubisoft’s iconic video game universe. It remains unclear whether he will direct the entire series or only selected episodes, or whether the show is conceived as a limited run or a multi-season production.

He has also directed episodes of Vikings

Renck’s résumé highlights extensive experience in prestige television. He directed several standout episodes of Breaking Bad during its second and third seasons, contributed to the early, critically acclaimed period of The Walking Dead, and helmed the first three episodes of Vikings. The latter, in particular, is likely to resonate with Assassin’s Creed fans, confirming his aptitude for historical settings and action-driven storytelling.

According to Variety, the series will star Toby Wallace and Lola Petticrew, with Zachary Hart and Laura Marcus appearing in recurring roles. Additional casting announcements and further details about this second live-action adaptation of the Assassin’s Creed universe are expected soon.
