Will StarCraft Get a Third-Person Shooter Game?

At BlizzCon, we can expect Microsoft-owned Blizzard to unveil the highly anticipated project that has been the subject of rumors.

There are rumors that StarCraft will make a comeback at this year’s event. Windows Central editor Jez Corden pointed out that Blizzard will present the long-rumored third-person StarCraft shooter at the event. Corden wrote about the future of Xbox and made several predictions about what we can expect from Microsoft and Xbox in 2026. These include the release of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters and the claim that MachineGames is working on Wolfenstein 3, which has been confirmed by another source.

BlizzCon 2026 will feature the release of the next World of Warcraft expansion and updates to Overwatch and Hearthstone. There may also be new mobile titles. However, none of these will be the “big” announcement of the show. According to Corden, that will be the unveiling of Blizzard‘s StarCraft TPS. Corden believes StarCraft will be the main attraction at BlizzCon 2026. Rumors that StarCraft will get a TPS have circulated, and Corden has confirmed these rumors through his sources.

A TPS set in the StarCraft universe could breathe new life into the seemingly dormant franchise, which has had no major releases since StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty in July 2010. The last major release in the franchise was StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty in July 2010, followed by three DLCs, the last of which came out in 2016. The most recent StarCraft release was StarCraft Remastered in 2017. Since then, Blizzard has focused on Overwatch 2, Diablo IV, and World of Warcraft instead of returning to the popular sci-fi real-time strategy (RTS) series.

A new third-person shooter would culminate years of anticipation from fans who never got over the cancellation of StarCraft: Ghost. It would also bring the series back before the next RTS title, which we last heard would be published by Nexon instead of Blizzard. Hopefully, after BlizzCon 2026, we can look forward to a sequel shooter game.
