The next Grand Theft Auto naturally comes with a new Grand Theft Auto Online, and Rockstar Games and Take-Two are clearly betting big on it – because it’s still a massive money machine.
Since launching back in 2013, Grand Theft Auto Online has become Rockstar’s true long-term success story, helping Grand Theft Auto V stay relevant for an absurdly long time. With Grand Theft Auto VI now positioned as its successor, expectations are sky-high not just for the campaign, but for the online component as well. Many players are hoping Grand Theft Auto VI Online will raise the bar – but one rumor suggests it may not change much, at least when it comes to how many players can share a lobby.
Fresh details tied to the ongoing lawsuit involving former Rockstar Games employees have revealed additional information about Grand Theft Auto VI. Allegedly, two dismissed employees leaked an unannounced feature via Discord. That feature reportedly points to a 32-player cap in the game’s multiplayer mode. The number stands out because Grand Theft Auto V already uses a very similar limitation: the game originally launched with 16-player multiplayer on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, before expanding to 32 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In Grand Theft Auto V, however, two of those 32 slots are reserved for spectators – meaning Grand Theft Auto VI would technically allow a slightly higher playable headcount, even if the difference is minimal.
This information was reportedly made public by People Make Games. According to claims, one of the former employees responded to a message about organizing a 32-player test session. Rockstar’s legal spokesperson reportedly argued that the message referenced a strictly confidential GTA VI feature – specifically, the maximum player count supported in the online mode.
But one major question still hangs in the air: how much will Take-Two charge for it?
