PlayStation Plus Essential: Has One of the April Games Been Leaked?

Once again, it looks like we may learn part of the PlayStation Plus lineup days before Sony’s official announcement. According to the latest leak, one of April’s headline titles could be Lords of the Fallen.

In the past, we often noted with some frustration that billbil-kun, the insider who leaked countless lineups and was almost never wrong, stopped revealing in advance which games PlayStation Plus, later PlayStation Plus Essential, would receive in the following month. There was a time when Sony’s plans regularly surfaced through him several days early.

Now, however, the leaker who publishes on Dealabs has started leaking again. Most recently, he was accurate regarding PlayStation Plus Extra, essentially listing almost the entire March lineup before the official announcement. We previously covered both the leak and Sony’s final confirmation. This time, he has turned his attention to the main April title for PlayStation Plus Essential.

According to the leak, the headline game for April on the PlayStation Plus Essential tier will be 2023’s Lords of the Fallen, which of course will also be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. The timing is amusing, considering the sequel also made the news on the very same day. Billbil-kun did not reveal the other two titles, but based on recent patterns, one of them will almost certainly be a smaller indie game. As for the third slot, let us just hope Sony does not fall back on another sports title, because it has developed a habit of doing exactly that lately.

Interestingly, Lords of the Fallen was also part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog before Microsoft removed it in November. And this is where the usual criticism of Sony’s approach comes back again: the company still refuses to clearly communicate which games are leaving PlayStation Plus. This is not about the monthly rotation on the Essential tier, but about titles departing from the other plans. Microsoft, by contrast, openly lists the games leaving the service at the end of every update post.

In any case, Sony is expected to reveal the official lineup on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and we will be watching closely.
