CD Projekt Reaches Major Milestone for The Witcher 4!

The Polish company has released its annual report for the first half of the year, and we learned more about CD Projekt (CDP) and its games in development.

Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CDP, talked about Polaris (the codename for the new The Witcher trilogy) and REDkit (the development kit for The Witcher 3): “Work on Polaris (The Witcher 4) is progressing – the development team is approaching a major milestone that will mark the end of the pre-production phase. The first half of the year has also been a busy time for our Boston studio, which is laying the groundwork for Project Orion – a new game set in the Cyberpunk universe. It’s been a few months since our development tools were released to gamers, and there are already a number of interesting modding projects out there. We are excited to see the involvement of the community, who are eager to share their ideas and give The Witcher 3 – a game that will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year – new strength.”

So The Witcher 4 will go into full development in a short period of time, and CDP is using 410 developers to do it. Between April and July, nine people joined the team. Three of them joined Polaris, four joined Orion (a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077) and two joined Sirius (a spin-off of The Witcher, recently rebooted by Molasses Flood). Project Hadar, a brand new IP, is still in development with 20 people, and three people are working on shared services (AI, localization, quality control…). Only eight people work on other projects. In April it was twelve.

And this is how Piotr Nielubowicz, CDP’s Chief Financial Officer, commented on the company’s business situation: “In the first half of 2024 we also recorded an increase in our financial reserves. Despite the fact that we paid almost PLN 100 million in dividends and allocated more than PLN 150 million to new projects, our reserves increased by more than PLN 55 million.”

We don’t know exactly when The Witcher 4 will be released, but we wouldn’t expect it before 2026, or even 2027.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
