Darksiders Is Back: Next-Gen Version Incoming!

The Darksiders franchise vanished for five years but is now poised for a grand return. The first big surprise for the Darksiders saga is a “next-gen” version of its second installment. The saga has been silent since the release of the spin-off “Genesis” in 2019.

While it may not be among the most famous video game series, the Darksiders franchise has a dedicated fan base. This is why the franchise’s sudden disappearance surprised many gamers. The last project related to the IP was Darksiders: Genesis, a spin-off released in 2019. However, the silence has been broken in recent weeks. First came the announcement of the highly anticipated fourth installment’s development, and now news of an unexpected next-gen patch for Darksiders 2.

THQ Nordic Goes All-In on Darksiders

THQ Nordic has confirmed via its official blog the launch of a “remastered and enhanced version” of Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series. The company states that the new version supports 4K resolution, includes ray tracing, improves lighting and shading, and drastically reduces loading times thanks to SSD technology. Additionally, the use of haptic triggers has been confirmed for PS5.

According to THQ Nordic, users who already own Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will receive this enhanced version for free as a ‘next-gen patch’ when it is released on October 15, 2024. For those who do not yet have the title, the company is offering a 50% discount, valid until the day before release (October 14), lowering its price to 15 euros on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

While fans of the Darksiders series have been eagerly awaiting news on the fourth main installment, this kind of announcement is a positive sign of the franchise’s health. It’s especially encouraging given that many had already lost hope of ever seeing the continuation of the stories of War, Death, Fury, and Strife.
