After Yuzu, Another Nintendo Switch Emulator Would Have Been Doomed?!

After shutting down Yuzu, Nintendo contacted gdkchan, the lead developer of the Ryujinx emulator, to offer “an agreement” to him to end the project…

Nintendo is continuing its fight against piracy after suing the creators of its most famous Switch game emulator, Yuzu, in March. More than half a year later, Big N is looking to get another Switch emulator off the internet. In this case, it is about Ryujinx. Although many people still had hope for a while, the shutdown of Ryujinx is now more or less official.

A member of the Ryujinx Discord community indicated that the creator of the emulator, gdkchan, was contacted by Nintendo and “offered an agreement” to stop working on the project and remove everything related to the program. This was shared on Ryujinx’s official X/Twitter account, and it has already been announced that the emulator is likely to be shut down.

All downloads and repositories have been removed from GitHub, suggesting it will be gone in the next few hours.

“Yesterday, gdkchan was contacted by Nintendo and offered an agreement to stop working on the project, remove the organization and all related assets he’s in control of. While awaiting confirmation on whether he would take this arrangement, the organization has been removed, so I think it’s safe to say what the outcome is. Rather than leave you with only panic and speculation, I decided to write this short message to give some closure,” concludes the Discord community member, before thanking all members, developers, and moderators who contributed to the project.

Differences between closing Ryujinx and Yuzu Nintendo Switch emulators

The Discord member also posted some of the projects they were working on. As for the closure, the main difference with Yuzu is that the developer closed this emulator right after Nintendo’s legal action. An out-of-court settlement was subsequently reached, which included the payment of $2.4 million and the full transfer of the Yuzu domain to Nintendo. Ryujinx’s fate seems to be sealed.
