Until Dawn Stumbles on PC: Bugs and Poor Optimization Mar its Launch

Until Dawn’s PC launch has been plagued with negative reviews, with players pointing to technical issues and poor optimization. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 5 version has garnered impressive ratings on the PS Store, with an average score of over 9 out of 10.

PlayStation has big plans for the Until Dawn IP, as the release of a remake nine years after the original game proves the continued interest in the franchise. We also learned that Sony is working on an Until Dawn movie adaptation. However, the game’s PC launch has been marred by numerous bugs and technical issues, frustrating PC gamers.

As seen on the Until Dawn Steam product page, many players have criticized the game not for its content—Supermassive Games’ title is often considered one of their best—but for technical reasons. The Steam reviews are “Mixed,” with 58% positive, and most complaints center around optimization and game-breaking bugs.

The game struggles with performance issues, crashes, and bugs that disrupt the experience. While patches may fix these problems in the coming days or weeks, many Steam players are disappointed with their first experience playing this game on PC. On the PlayStation 5, however, the reception is much more favorable, with a rating of 4.65 out of 5 stars on the PS Store.

PlayStation Network Account Required for Until Dawn on Steam

Another controversy surrounding the PC version is the requirement to link a PlayStation Network account. Steam users are greeted with the message that “a PlayStation Network account is required subject to the Terms of Service.” While the gaming community is slowly adapting to this requirement for single-player games like God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, the fact that PSN is unavailable in over 170 regions worldwide remains a point of contention for many players who are now unable to access Sony’s exclusive titles.
