STEAM DECK NEWS – Although AMD FSR 3 can greatly enhance performance, Bloober Team removed it from Silent Hill 2 Remake. Here’s how you can bring FSR 3 back on your Steam Deck for a significant performance boost.
While Silent Hill 2 Remake runs on Unreal Engine 5, which typically supports FSR 3, Bloober Team for some reason decided to remove it. Compared to FSR 1.0, FSR 3 can offer a performance increase of up to 20 fps on medium settings—especially important on a device like the Steam Deck, where every frame counts. In this detailed guide, we’ll walk you through how to find the Engine.ini file and modify it to bring FSR 3 back.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Access the Configuration Files
Open the file explorer on your Steam Deck, or if connected via PC, navigate through the remote Steam Deck file system. Go to the following directory:- Steam Library >
steamapps
>common
> Silent Hill 2 >Saved
>Config
>Windows
.
- Steam Library >
- Reveal Hidden Files
If the directory is hidden, you’ll need to enable viewing hidden files. To do this, go to the file manager’s view options and select “Show Hidden Files.” - Edit the
Engine.ini
File
Once inside theConfig
folder, locate theEngine.ini
file. Open it with a text editor available on Steam Deck, like Kate, or use Notepad++ if you’re editing from a PC. - Add the FSR 3 Code
Add the following lines at the end of the file:[
]
r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1 - Save and Relaunch the Game
After saving your changes, restart Silent Hill 2 Remake and enable FSR 3 Supersampling in the Display settings. - Optional: Set an FPS Limit
For the best stability, you might want to set the frame rate to 30 fps using the Steam Deck overlay to maintain consistent performance. Personally, I didn’t enable this as I was able to reach around 44 fps, but if you prefer a locked 30 fps, it’s recommended.
