Blizzard Pulls Out All the Stops for World of Warcraft’s 20th Anniversary—Here’s What’s Coming!

Blizzard goes all out with World of Warcraft. The iconic fantasy MMORPG celebrates its 20th anniversary in style with dozens of new features. Unreleased quests, familiar dungeons, bosses to beat, exclusive items… There are plenty of reasons to celebrate WoW’s anniversary.

Time flies. In 2024, it will be 20 years since the launch of one of the most important experiences in the history of video games: World of Warcraft. And, to celebrate the milestone with the players, Blizzard has prepared a good handful of activities, exclusive items, and challenges that will further expand the adventure through the MMORPG. Below, we summarize all the news of the 20th anniversary of WoW as indicated on the official website of the game.

New challenges in WoW

One of the best ways to celebrate the long life of World of Warcraft is by enjoying the challenges that have attracted so many players over the years. That’s why Blizzard has prepared a series of new features that seek to test the community through challenges such as the journey through Blackrock Depths. An adventure across eight boss encounters that will force users (in groups of 10 to 15 people) to develop good strategies to survive.

This is complemented by a handful of quests to suit all tastes. On the one hand, Cromi stars in an adventure for groups of 10-20 players that consists of sending misplaced enemies from the sands of Silithus back to where they belong. On the other hand, the MMORPG now has a new character, Alyx, who will invite players to solve weekly mysteries using her new skills to find secrets. Finally, Blizzard once again pulls on nostalgia with Korrak’s Revenge, a retro battlefield inspired by the dawn of the Alterac Valley that will allow players to summon reinforcements to advance; units that are generated after collecting special tokens that appear on the corpses of enemies.

As if all this weren’t enough, the developers are also celebrating WoW’s 20th anniversary with several world bosses: Doomwalker, Azuregos, Lord Kazzak, and the Nightmare Dragons. In addition, the title will also integrate a couple of additional opponents that will appear in the arenas of Tanaris: Sha of Wrath and Archavon the Stone Watcher. All in all, this guarantees some unforgettable fights.

Events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft

If you’re someone who likes to spend their time in dungeons and you’ve already seen all the ones that World of Warcraft has included throughout its history, you might be interested to know that Blizzard has brought back some of its challenges to offer new rewards. We’re talking about a new Timewalking event that will take users to the original version of the Deadmines, Zul’Farrak, Dire Maul (the east and west wings), and the living and undead dungeons of Stratholme.

But if you’d rather enjoy the event with a variety of activities that aren’t related to the fighting, you might want to join the celebration in the Caverns of Time. After all, here you’ll find options to show off your transmog skills on stage, display your mount collection, and even take a balloon ride. In other words, a set of ideas that seek to offer all kinds of experiences.

A special currency for the occasion

As is usual with any special WoW event, users will also have access to exclusive items from this and previous anniversaries of the MMORPG. In fact, these items can be purchased with a new currency: Bronze Celebration Tokens. And, if that were not enough, one of the most eagerly awaited trends by the community has now also spread. Did you know that Blizzard employees receive unique cosmetics? Well, players will now be able to customize their character with a mount, sword, shield, and crown similar to those that the developers have.

Last but not least, it’s also worth noting that Blizzard has revamped several classic Tier 2 sets (including some that didn’t exist when this feature was implemented, such as the Monk and Evokers). In total, we’re talking about 13 very nice class sets, each consisting of 9 pieces.

In short, Blizzard has prepared a 20th anniversary celebration that meets the interests of a large part of its gaming community, including new challenges, dungeons that aim to give a touch of nostalgia, various activities, and new customization options. Therefore, the celebration is a great time to return to the MMORPG.
