Battlefall: State of Conflict is a “retro” RTS set in a post-apocalyptic world…
We recently reported on Fractured Alliance, a Command & Conquer fan project from a single developer that looks very promising. But it’s far from the only strategy game that aims to serve as the spiritual successor to the iconic RTS. Today, we’re introducing you to Battlefall: State of Conflict.
The adventure, which arrives at Steam Next Fest with a trailer (see below) and a demo, invites you on an exciting journey into the heart of a shattered world, where the remnants of humanity are fighting for survival in an epic battle. Players leading three very different factions find themselves in a high-octane strategy game where they can train their forces without population limits, build their bases, tanks, and other weapons, all in a retro aesthetic that fits the gameplay quite well. In fact, the graphics reminded me of Brigador, which is a different genre, but we can see the same crazy action here.
Battlefall comes with three factions and three playable campaigns
The RTS allows you to choose between Humanity (the last bastion of order and civilization, using the latest technological advances), the Scrappers (an anarchist group driven by madness caused by post-apocalyptic radiation), and the SEL (synthetic life forms born from Humanity’s desperate attempts to regain control). Each side has a story-driven campaign that promises to tell us about their struggles, sacrifices, and aspirations.
However, Battlefall: State of Conflict will be much more than its campaign.
The game features a variety of game modes, including offline and online skirmishes with other opponents, cooperative campaigns, and a rich editor.
Battlefall: State of Conflict is being developed by Kyoto Video Game Concern with MicroProse Software, the publisher that surprised us a few months ago with the announcement of Empire Eternal, inspired by Empire Earth. Perhaps it’s time to revisit the great RTS games of the past…
