Tesla’s CEO responds sharply after Alcon Entertainment accuses him of copyright infringement

A few days ago, 3DJuegos reported on the complaint filed against Elon Musk and Tesla, alleging they used copyrighted scenes from Blade Runner 2049 to promote Tesla’s latest futuristic concept, the “robotaxi.” Producers of the sci-fi film wanted nothing to do with Twitter’s controversial owner. Now, Musk has delivered his response.

A Three-Word Comeback

As you might imagine, Musk didn’t go the diplomatic route. Using his preferred platform, now known as X, the South African entrepreneur made his disdain for Denis Villeneuve’s film clear in just three words: “This movie sucked.” A curious statement, considering Musk’s appreciation for Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner.

According to Variety, Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. are accused of misappropriating scenes from Blade Runner 2049, a production of Alcon Entertainment, to promote Tesla’s recent project. Alcon claims that Musk’s company used AI-generated images portraying scenes from the sci-fi film, despite being explicitly denied permission to use the content.

It’s unclear how far this issue will go, but Hollywood is showing heightened sensitivity to AI-related matters. Scarlett Johansson’s recent suit is another example, as she accused ChatGPT of using a voice that sounded “eerily similar” to hers. Currently, Blade Runner 2049 can be watched on Max and Netflix.

Blade Runner 2049 was initially seen as a box office failure but has since earned a reputation as one of the best sequels in sci-fi cinema, paying homage to the original while showcasing Denis Villeneuve’s directorial skill. In the story, we follow a new Blade Runner, Officer K (Ryan Gosling) of the Los Angeles Police Department, who uncovers an ancient secret that could plunge society into chaos.
