World of Warcraft: How Much Money the Outrageously Expensive Mount Brought to Blizzard?!

World of Warcraft’s infamous “Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur” reportedly earned Blizzard over $5 million…

Blizzard has angered many World of Warcraft fans by bringing back a somewhat controversial mount. The Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur was released in late October with a price tag of $90. That’s a “low” sum compared to the $475 it cost six years ago when it first debuted in the MMORPG! While the extra is notable for including two merchants accompanying the player on their adventures, the community has been heavily critical of the high price tag. Now, despite all the complaints, we know that the cosmetic item has made at least $5 million for the developers.

This is an estimate based on real user data, but the number could be much, much higher. Data for Azeroth is a website that regularly accesses Blizzard’s API and collects thousands of World of Warcraft character and account data, including the percentage of users who own the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur. After analyzing 1,156,260 profiles, the system determined that 5.3552% of the sample had purchased the mount; that’s 61,920 users. Multiplying that number by the $90 it costs to purchase the cosmetic item, the total shows that Blizzard earned $5,572,800.

Data for Azeroth’s statistics, however, don’t cover all existing World of Warcraft accounts.

So, even more players could have purchased the outrageously expensive extra. However, this early estimate suggests that tens of thousands of users have reached into their wallets to purchase the $90 mount, and Blizzard is no doubt delighted by this phenomenon.

What’s so special about this World of Warcraft mount?

The Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur differs from other WoW mounts in one way, which, as we mentioned earlier, is very useful for players. It allows you to carry two NPC traders. This gives users the luxury of being able to buy supplies or repair equipment wherever they are. However, for many, this idea doesn’t justify the high price tag…
