TECH NEWS – An interesting thing has emerged around Meta’s VR headset: some people are complaining that Meta Quest 3 has broken because of the sweat they emit.
First, Mixed, which is dedicated to VR and MR (virtual and mixed reality), reported that many Meta Quest 3 owners have reported that the headset broke while exercising (e.g. running Supernatural or Les Mills CR Bodycombat). The article also links to the Meta website and a Reddit post. In the latter case, the question is how sweatproof the headset is.
Many commenters have complained about this, as if their Meta Quest 3 broke because they sweated into the machine. One of them wrote this: “I was playing Les Mills Bodycombat the other day with Quest 3, total punishment workout. Towards the end I was sweating like a pig and the left lens started flickering. Turned the headset off immediately, but after an hour it died completely.” One forum user wrote that he had to replace the headset four times in four months, which is both a positive thing for Mark Zuckerberg’s company and a bit of an embarrassment.
Can I damage my Quest 3 with sweat during long training sessions?

It is not yet known how widespread this problem is, but it seems to be prominent enough that many users are reporting similar problems. We also don’t know exactly what’s going on at a technical level. Perhaps sweat is soaking through the fabric of the front headphones and getting into the electronics. Of course, it’s to be expected that a headset this popular would have some level of failure, so we can’t say for sure that sweat is the culprit… but it seems like a logical theory.
For this reason, it’s worth buying a good headband, and after that, a sweat-wicking face shield is recommended. Some forum users suggest taking the front off and using the halo strap to essentially hold the VR in front of your face, another suggests wiping it down thoroughly after each use and never storing it face down.
Maybe that’s the answer.
