Xyn: Sony’s New VR Headset, A Fresh Experience Beyond PlayStation VR! [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – Sony has unveiled a new augmented reality headset at CES, a year after it was first announced…

Sony says Xyn (pronounced zin) accurately captures the real world and seamlessly integrates with third-party devices. The new augmented reality (XR) product was announced at last year’s CES, and the company unveiled the device at this year’s event. Designed to create 3D objects for movies, animations and games, Xyn features a 4K OLED display, video pass-through and support for third-party design, modeling and manufacturing software.

According to Sony, Xyn uses its unique technology to accurately capture the real world and seamlessly integrates with a wide range of third-party devices to enable flexible workflows. In a video of the device in action detailed by The Verge, you can see that the headset’s screen flips up when not in use and is compatible with the new Xyn Motion Studio app. The only problem is that there’s no specific release date or price yet (the latter might be a bit steep… but we’re merely guessing).

The timing is not coincidental, however, as Sony’s announcement comes shortly after the Meta Quest Pro headset was officially withdrawn from the market. That’s one less competitor for the device, but we don’t know when yet, as Sony hasn’t even given an approximate timeframe for when it will be in stores. What we can see is that this is not exactly a device designed for home use. It will be more suitable for professional use.

By the way, Sony recently increased its stake in Kadokawa Corporation. It also owns FromSoftware, whose next game, Elden Ring: Nightreign, will be released in a few months. As Sony has become Kadokawa’s largest shareholder, it will also have access to FromSoftware’s projects.
