Novocaine: How a Rare Disease Can Make Someone a Superhero

MOVIE NEWS – Jack Quaid delivers justice as an action star in the film Novocain, which he briefly describes as an action movie for horror fans with a bit of exaggeration.

“It’s so violent and bloody that it’s just, nah,” the young actor explained on the CBS Morning talk show. “At the same time, it’s very well thought out, because there’s a beautiful love story at the center, which is in sharp contrast to how badly the bad guys get their deserved punishment. The film is also very funny, which also offsets the violence.”

The hero of the story is Nathan Cain, who suffers from a special and rare neurological disorder: he doesn’t feel any pain. The syndrome has a very nice name in English: Congenital Insensitivity to Pain and Anhydrosis (CIPA) Syndrome. That’s why the film’s title is Novocaine, after the powerful painkiller.

The otherwise mild-mannered Nathan goes into superhero mode when his girlfriend, Sherry (Amber MidthunderPrey), is kidnapped during a bank robbery. He wants to free her at all costs, and because of CIPA, there’s no one to stop him. The actor also mentioned that in reality, people with this disorder don’t live very long because they don’t notice even the most serious physical injuries in time, so even a simple kitchen accident can be fatal for them.
