MOVIE NEWS – The thriller “Drop” has been so well received that director Christopher Landon posted an exploding head emoji on his page on X, right above the post on the Rotten Tomatoes review portal, which gives the film a 100 percent rating. This is a very rare rating, because in every case there is a judge who for some reason is tight-lipped, but “Date of the Dead” seems to be liked by everyone.
Landon is no small-time player when it comes to the thriller/horror genre, having previously achieved great success with his works “Happy Death Day!” and “Freaky.” However, “Drop” surpasses even these.
In the story, a grieving mother (Meghann Fahy) goes on a first date at a fancy restaurant after a long time, where she begins to receive strange text messages. These reveal that her life is in danger. It is not known who is texting her, which is why the tension is growing. According to critics, this is one of the great strengths of the film, and the other is that Landon perfectly captures the digital paranoia of our days, when our own phones bring us the scare, but we can’t tear ourselves away from it.
(Drop – domestic premiere: April 10, 2025.)
