Cyberpunk 2077 Is Turning Joy-Cons into Katana Blades on Nintendo Switch 2

CD Projekt RED is bringing a feature to Nintendo Switch 2 that’s tailor-made for Cyberpunk 2077 players who prefer slicing their enemies with style: Joy-Con katana combat is coming to the hybrid console.

During the Nintendo Switch 2 presentation, several third-party studios revealed their plans to release major games on the upcoming system — including Elden Ring, Split Fiction, and Cyberpunk 2077. Releasing games on Nintendo’s platform not only taps into a new user base, but also allows developers to create exclusive features that leverage the hybrid system’s capabilities. CD Projekt RED is doing exactly that, adding a new twist to Cyberpunk’s iconic katana.

If you’re one of those players who loves slicing through Night City with a katana, you’re in luck: CD Projekt RED has linked the weapon’s functionality directly to the Joy-Con. Game director Adam Badowski confirmed the detail in a new Nintendo promo video, stating: “You can use one of your Joy-Cons to fight with your katana.”

While we don’t yet know how the system works in practice, fans are already speculating. Many believe the controller’s motion detection could allow for angle-specific strikes, making the katana feel more physically responsive — essentially turning the Joy-Con into a virtual sword hilt.

Cyberpunk 2077 Will Look and Run Better on Switch 2 Than Last-Gen Consoles

Beyond this motion-control novelty, CD Projekt RED has shared technical specs that show the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is no slouch. Targeted resolution will be 1080p in quality mode and 720p in performance mode, enhanced by NVIDIA DLSS upscaling support. The devs guarantee that this release will offer a better experience than what we saw on PS4 and Xbox One — both visually and performance-wise.
