PlayStation Plus Essential: What Can We Expect in May 2025?

On the last day of the month, Sony has announced which games will be available for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers of all levels.

Another month has come to an end and so, ahead of the long weekend, Sony has announced at the usual time (8:30am Pacific on the Wednesday before the first Tuesday of the new month) which titles PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can add to their games library to be available until their PlayStation Plus subscription ends. Sadly, there were no leaks this time around, so the days of Billbil-kun, the editor of Dealabs, telling us what titles are in store days before the official announcement are over… but what titles will we be able to close out Spring 2025 with?

May’s headliner is Ark: Survival Ascended (PlayStation 5). The game, which uses Unreal Engine 5, can offer multiplayer experiences for up to 70 players, but you can also play together locally in split-screen with one friend. The second game is the big indie hit of recent months (which presumably didn’t cost Sony much), as it’s Balatro (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4), so card game fans will have something to pass the time with. The third game is Warhammer 40K: Boltgun (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4). All three games are available until June 2nd.

As a reminder, the April games are still available until Monday, and they’re pretty fair. April’s headline title was RoboCop: Rogue City (PlayStation 5; Teyon’s quite good game will get a standalone add-on later this summer, as we’ve already mentioned in the news). The second game in last month’s line-up was The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4). And the third title is the usual niche game, as Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory (PlayStation 4) is not exactly a mainstream title.
