The Harry Potter remake for HBO has chosen its Harry, Hermione, and Ron after an exhaustive search involving thousands of candidates. The fantasy series is now ready to start shooting in the coming weeks.
We already knew who would be teaching at Hogwarts, and today we’ve finally met the trio of students who will be bringing Harry, Ron, and Hermione to life in the new Harry Potter TV remake. Warner Bros. and HBO officially confirmed this afternoon that Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will be Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will step into the role of Ron Weasley. The project has been in the works for two years, and it looks like filming is about to kick off.
“The original Harry Potter series for HBO has cast newcomers Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley,” reads a statement accompanied by an official photo. “The talents of these three unique actors are worthy of admiration, and we can’t wait for the whole world to witness the magic they unleash together on screen,” added Francesca Gardiner (showrunner and executive producer) and Mark Mylon (director and executive producer).
“We want to thank the tens of thousands of children who auditioned”
Warner Bros. conducted an exhaustive search for these young leads, auditioning tens of thousands of children across the UK—just as they did 25 years ago for the original film series. “We want to thank the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It has been wonderful to discover the wide range of young talent out there,” they said. The names of the rest of the Hogwarts students are expected to be announced in the coming days, with particular attention on the actor chosen to play Draco Malfoy, who, as we know, has a significant role throughout J.K. Rowling’s seven-part saga adapted to film between 2001 and 2011.
With Harry, Ron, and Hermione cast, filming could begin in just a few weeks. In fact, photos of the Privet Drive set being built in England recently surfaced, though they have since been taken down. Still, no official start date for filming has been shared.
They Insist: It Will Be a Faithful Adaptation
HBO’s goal is to produce seven seasons, one for each book in the series. This seems like a tall order in today’s streaming world, with painful cancellations like The Wheel of Time on Prime Video. However, the team remains fully committed, repeatedly stating that this will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books.
