Nintendo Switch 2: Mario Smash Football Kicks Off a GameCube Revival—And It’s Coming Sooner Than You Think!

Nintendo isn’t wasting any time: one of the Switch 2’s most celebrated features is about to get even better, with Mario Smash Football joining the GameCube catalog on July 3. The beloved soccer title will be available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.

On top of technical improvements and the runaway hit Mario Kart: World, the Nintendo Switch 2 now offers an expanding lineup of GameCube classics via the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Up until now, just three fan-favorite titles made up the catalog, but Nintendo clearly isn’t dragging its feet—they’re bulking up the selection with another classic.

That classic is Mario Smash Football, the 2005 soccer experience that won fans over not just by bringing Mario into the beautiful game, but by doing so in true Nintendo style: wild rule changes, power-ups galore, and enough chaos to make every match unpredictable. According to an official post on X from Nintendo, the game will hit the Nintendo Switch Online classics collection on July 3.

The Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube catalog is still small for now—with Mario Smash Football, the library only includes four games: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX, and SOULCALIBUR II. Still, fans expect this list to grow steadily in the coming months.

Nintendo Prepares Even More Exclusives for Summer

Of course, it’s no secret that beyond perks like the GameCube library, most gamers grabbed a Switch 2 to dive into Mario Kart: World and gear up for more exclusives this summer. So far, we know Donkey Kong: Bananza drops on July 17, with Drag x Drive following on August 14, and both Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Splatoon Raiders looming on the horizon.
