Nintendo Reminds Switch Owners: New Games Still Coming to the Original Console! [VIDEO]

Nintendo once again makes it clear: it hasn’t abandoned its 152 million players, and there are still big plans for the first Switch. Company president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed, “We continue to develop new titles for Nintendo Switch.”

The new console generation may be here, and most Nintendo teams are now focused on the Switch 2, but the Japanese gaming giant hasn’t forgotten its enormous community still enjoying the original Switch—over 152 million strong, according to the latest company stats. That’s why Nintendo is once again assuring fans that more games are on the way for the first-gen console.

Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo’s president, reiterated the plan during the company’s 85th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, when asked how long the Switch 2 would be supported. Furukawa responded: “Nintendo Switch 2 has just been launched, so it’s not yet the time to talk about its life cycle. However, for the original Nintendo Switch, our goal is for as many users as possible to enjoy it for as long as possible.”

“Nintendo Switch 2 is also compatible with Nintendo Switch software. We are still developing new titles for Nintendo Switch and there is a large library of software available, so we believe there will be opportunities for users to experience Nintendo Switch titles for the first time on Nintendo Switch 2,” Furukawa continued. He wrapped up by saying: “The longer a platform remains active, the more opportunities there will be for users to acquire software. We will continue to develop each Nintendo Switch 2 title carefully and strive to get it played by as many people as possible.”

Switch 2 Price Concerns: Nintendo Knows Not Everyone Can Afford the New Console

The price of the Switch 2 was also raised at the shareholders’ meeting. Nintendo knows not all fans can buy the console at full price. Furukawa pointed out that fans have “opportunities” to connect with Nintendo series outside of video games, too—such as watching Super Mario Bros. The Movie—to engage with beloved characters and franchises.
