Allegedly, one of the projects is highly anticipated, so a popular favorite could continue under the Redmond-based giant.
Following the explosive popularity of the Fallout TV series, fans have been clamoring for new games in the beloved post-apocalyptic franchise. It was, of course, far from an easy task for Bethesda Game Studios (BGS), which had just begun development on the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls VI. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has hinted that Bethesda is considering ways to speed up the release of new games.
However, Todd Howard of BGS clarified shortly afterwards that the games would not be rushed to meet an arbitrary deadline, such as the release of the second season of the series. In the latest episode of Skill Up’s Friends Per Second podcast, VGC editor Jordan Middler hinted that several Fallout projects are in development, including the highly anticipated one. However, as we already knew, the next mainline entry is a long way off.
“Fallout is the big one. I’m surprised they didn’t start working on Fallout 5 immediately, given Todd’s absence. He’s not going to make it. He’s not going to finish the game. He may make it to that point in life, hopefully by the time of recording, but once he’s finished the next Elder Scrolls game, I can see him saying, ‘Okay, I’m done. I’m an older guy now.’ There are multiple Fallout projects in development, including, as far as I know, the one you all want. But it’s not far enough along to say, ‘You’re going to be playing this game anytime soon.’ Fallout 5 should have been day one,” Middler said.
As for Howard’s involvement, Middler is speculating. He’s about 55 years old, and with The Elder Scrolls VI expected in 2028, he has plenty of time left in his career to create another major game. We already know that the next Fallout will follow TES VI. As for the other projects, one will likely be a Fallout 3 remaster. We heard about this during the FTC-Microsoft trial. There could also be a Fallout: New Vegas remaster, especially since the second season of the Amazon Prime Video series is heading to Vegas.
There has been speculation that Obsidian could be working on a New Vegas sequel, but that rumor is more than three and a half years old, and the studio is still busy.
