Microsoft’s finally giving in, but PlayStation fans shouldn’t get too excited just yet: Starfield is coming, but only in 2026, and not because of the usual “strategic realignment” talk—this time, poor sales for Shattered Space are a big factor. The universe isn’t dealing everyone a winning hand, but at least Sony players will get two expansions in one go.
According to undisclosed sources speaking to MP1st, Bethesda’s Xbox Series X|S console exclusive Starfield will not release on PlayStation 5 this year, as rumors previously suggested. Instead, Microsoft is reportedly targeting Spring 2026 for the PlayStation launch, timed with the release of a second, as-yet-unannounced expansion and some quality-of-life improvements. There’s no clear word on when the announcement will happen, but don’t expect a reveal at this year’s Gamescom—or a surprise shadowdrop like we saw with Oblivion Remastered earlier this year.
It’s not exactly shocking that Starfield: Shattered Space hasn’t been selling well. While the expansion’s tight narrative and almost horror-like atmosphere are well executed, it doesn’t bring anything new to the table compared to the base game. The price doesn’t help either—it’s too high for what’s actually on offer, as I noted in my review.
Starfield is currently available worldwide on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. For more on the base game, check out my full review.
