Shadowheart: The Baldur’s Gate 3 Favorite Who’s Been Reworked Nearly 5 Million Times!

Shadowheart is the number one companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, but she’s also the RPG’s most dramatically altered character—Larian Studios says players have changed her almost five million times, more than anyone else in the game.

While Shadowheart stands as one of the most iconic and beloved faces in Baldur’s Gate 3, players have repeatedly reinvented her in ways that no other companion has experienced. The latest data from Larian Studios reveals that fans have reshaped her skills and class to such an extent that the original archetype barely survives. Even though the community adores her, Shadowheart’s default path rarely goes untouched.

According to official numbers from the Belgian developer, Shadowheart has switched subclasses an astonishing 4,890,005 times. That’s largely because her initial role—a Cleric with Trickery Domain—just doesn’t offer much in the heat of battle, so the vast majority of players opt to respecialize her into more practical domains like Light or Death (the latter added in Patch 8).

Shadowheart isn’t alone in being remade by the community. Other party members have also seen significant transformations, though on a smaller scale. Wyll has been respec’d 1,417,506 times, while Gale comes in with 684,454 changes, completing the podium of the game’s most “re-educated” companions—each adapted to fit a player’s chosen tactics.

This trend is a testament to how much freedom Baldur’s Gate 3 gives every player to craft their own adventure. Being able to rewrite even the main characters’ destinies is part of what makes this title such a landmark achievement—many now call it Larian Studios’ finest work.

Larian Studios’ next project will be even bigger

That legendary status may not last forever: Larian Studios has already begun work on its next major project, and the anticipation among fans and developers alike is sky-high. Michael Douse, editorial director at Larian, has hinted the studio’s next game could raise the bar even higher than their celebrated RPG.
