MOVIE NEWS – It won’t be another Vikings, but medieval drama fans should definitely pay attention to this new take on Robin Hood. MGM+ will premiere the reimagining of the legendary outlaw this November, promising greater “historical authenticity.”
We’ve always loved medieval-themed stories. Not just in gaming, where titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance II have set new standards, but also in film and television. On the latter front, viewers recently got King and Conqueror on HBO Max (though reactions are divided). Now, for November, MGM+ has announced the arrival of a brand-new Robin Hood series featuring Sean Bean and Connie Nielsen among its lead cast.
Everyone knows the tale of the famous outlaw and archer, known for his credo of “steal from the rich to give to the poor.” Still, Lionsgate TV found reason to revisit the story: to add more historical precision, even if not to miraculous levels. The showrunners explained in a press release: “It is an exciting, smart, epic, and romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a stronger focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian in this beloved story.”
The series is set in post-Norman invasion England, where Rob (Jack Patten), the son of a Saxon gamekeeper, falls in love with Marian (Lauren McQueen), the daughter of a Norman lord. “As Rob becomes the leader of a band of outlaw rebels, Marian infiltrates the royal court. Together, they aim to fight corruption and restore peace to the land,” reads the synopsis. The season will run for 10 episodes.
The series will premiere with a double episode on November 2 on MGM+, available in Spain as an additional channel through Prime Video. Afterward, new episodes will air weekly until December 28. If successful, it could join the ranks of beloved medieval sagas, while fans wait for the creator of Vikings to bring his next series to Prime Video and for the Game of Thrones spin-offs to make their long-awaited debut.
