Rumors suggest that the next Soul Calibur installment may be announced within days, but the question remains: how much of it is true? A trusted leaker hinted that the next Nintendo Direct could showcase three different titles, each featuring the number seven in their names.
Talk of an unannounced Nintendo Direct has been circulating for a while, with speculation about a new port of a popular game—something mentioned in the news earlier today. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond still lacks a concrete release date, though Nintendo insists that Samus Aran will make her way to the Nintendo Switch 2 before the year is out. On Saturday, chatter intensified when reliable leaker SwitchForce hinted that the upcoming presentation would feature three titles, all tied together by the number seven.
Fans immediately guessed Final Fantasy VII Remake, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and Dragon Quest VII, all rumored or confirmed for the Switch. But in an interesting twist, the insider clarified that no one had correctly identified the titles. The use of the word “soul” sparked speculation that this might point toward Soul Calibur, a franchise that has been dormant for years.

Many may not remember Soul Calibur, as the last entry, Soul Calibur 6, launched back in 2018—seven years ago. Naturally, the next installment could be called Soul Calibur 7. The clues don’t stop there, however. Back in April, Nintendo revealed that GameCube titles would be available on Switch 2 through Nintendo Switch Online, with Soul Calibur 2 among the first confirmed. That game famously included Link as a guest character in its GameCube version.
Could Link make a comeback in Soul Calibur 7? It’s certainly possible. But what other games might carry the number seven? Killer7? Nothing else immediately comes to mind.
