Bethesda Finally Promises To Fix Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition After Steam Backlash

After days of silence and a flood of negative reviews on Steam, Bethesda has finally responded to the controversy around Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition. The studio says it is already digging into the issues reported by players and has laid out a series of hotfixes that should gradually bring the troubled anniversary update into better shape.

This has been anything but a celebratory launch for Bethesda. The 10th anniversary version, Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, arrived with extra content designed for long time fans, yet it quickly ran into a wall of criticism on Steam and social media. Instead of smooth nostalgia, players ran into broken setups and fresh problems, forcing the publisher to act and publicly commit to a roadmap of fixes in the coming weeks.

Many fans feel let down not only by what the new edition adds, but by the way it disrupts the base game. According to multiple reports, the latest update breaks existing mods, introduces additional bugs and complicates things by failing to clearly separate older versions from the Anniversary Edition. Rather than dismissing the complaints, Bethesda has acknowledged them and started working on concrete solutions.

In a post on X, the company explains that its developers are already “actively investigating the issues” players have encountered with the most recent Fallout 4 patch and the launch of the Anniversary Edition. Bethesda also notes that “you should now see faster load times for the Creations menu, the game menu, and when redeeming Creation Club items” thanks to the first round of tweaks. On top of that, the RPG will get another update next week with three specific priorities:

• Fixing stability problems, especially on Xbox One and PS4.

• Fixing a bug that prevents creations dependent on DLC from working correctly.

• Fixing an issue on PlayStation where DLC is uninstalled after updating the game.

A single hotfix will not close the case, though. Bethesda plans two more patches for Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, one targeted for November 24 and another scheduled for the first half of December. The studio has not yet revealed every detail of these updates, but it has already teased an important improvement for console users: with the November patch, “Xbox Series X/S players will see a substantial increase in the local storage limit for Creations, expandable up to 100GB to suit your needs. We’re also looking at increasing storage on PlayStation.”

Steam reviews make the community’s frustration impossible to ignore

Whether these measures will be enough to win back the Fallout 4 community is still an open question. Right now, the mood around the Anniversary Edition is heavily negative, and players are making that clear through their feedback. At the time of writing, only about 40% of recent Steam reviews are positive, a figure that reflects just how widespread the frustration has become. Even so, there is cautious hope that a steady stream of patches will eventually stabilize the game and give this anniversary release a chance to redeem itself.
