October Was Dominated by Shooting Games in Many Respects!

In terms of revenue generated and monthly active users, shooter games clearly dominated October, which is not surprising.

Global data research and advisory firm Newzoo released its latest gaming industry overview for October, showcasing the 20 most popular games in terms of revenue and MAU. As expected, Battlefield 6 ranks first on both lists, and other major October releases, such as Arc Raiders, also appear on both lists. Shooter games dominated this month: eleven shooter games were among the top twenty most popular games in the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain, and seven shooter games were among the top twenty most popular games in the same regions. Battlefield 6 and its free battle royale mode, Battlefield Resec, topped the revenue charts, ahead of EA Sports FC 24 in second place and Fortnite in third. Arc Raiders finished in seventh place, ahead of Call of Duty and Counter-Strike, further proving the success of its launch month.

Other new games released in October that were not shooters, such as Ghost of Tsushima and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, also made it onto the list. The former took fourth place, and the latter took fifth. Meanwhile, NBA 2K26 took sixth place, just ahead of Arc Raiders. Battlefield 6 did not top the MAU list but came in third behind Fortnite in first and Call of Duty in second. Arc Raiders took 18th place, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus took 15th place. This is arguably the most impressive result on the MAU list because it is the only non-multiplayer game.

With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 this month, it will be interesting to see how Newzoo’s November summary turns out. Although we have written about how poorly this year’s Call of Duty is performing, it would be premature to write off such a popular franchise. As we approach the end of the year, we will have to wait and see if this year’s Call of Duty significantly underperforms compared to Battlefield 6.
