Nioh 3’s PS5 Console Exclusivity Already Has an End Date – and It Could Change the Series

Nioh 3 could be a turning point for the franchise, largely because its PS5 console exclusivity isn’t permanent – it’s timed. The PlayStation 5 console exclusivity lasts 6 months; after that, Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo are free to publish on other systems.

In just a few days, action fans will be carving through demons in the dark world of Nioh 3. Scheduled for release on February 6, the new game from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo follows the series’ usual path by launching on PC and PlayStation consoles. The twist is that its PS5 console debut is tied to a timed exclusivity agreement that expires after six months – which, in turn, could open the door to a future release on Nintendo Switch 2 or Xbox Series X/S.

The detail appears in a recent Nioh 3 trailer focused on PS5 features, specifically in the final seconds of the video. There, PlayStation includes the following message: “Not available on other consoles until at least 6 months after February 6, 2026.” That puts the end of the PS5 console exclusivity in August, at which point Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo would be free to bring the game to other consoles.

A Turning Point for the Nioh Saga

It’s worth stressing that no Nioh 3 version has been announced for Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch. Still, Koei Tecmo confirming timed PS5 console exclusivity gives the team room to consider life beyond PlayStation and PC – a shift that would represent a genuine strategic change for the action franchise.

The first two Nioh games are only available on PC, PS4, and PS5, meaning the series has historically been tied closely to PlayStation hardware and has never made the jump to Nintendo or Xbox systems. Now, with a timed PS5 arrangement on the books, it’s possible the developers are looking to reach a wider audience – but any such move would only make practical sense once the PlayStation agreement ends in August 2026.

For now, we’ll have to keep a close eye on updates from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo to learn what they have planned for the third entry in the series.
