The game, previously announced as Xtal, will launch on PC first from True Colors and Dear Villagers.
Calx is an atmospheric 3D action-adventure inspired by futuristic sci-fi art. Explore the planet Syro – vast landscapes filled with crystal structures and ancient technology. Find out what WARP did to the Quoths civilization. The environment guides you, revealing secrets as you explore. The game moves between calm and frantic intensity. Quiet moments, paced like waves, give way to wild fights – reflection, then action, then reflection again. Art and music complement each other: hypnotic visuals shape the mood, while the soundtrack breathes life into the imagery. You’re alone on Syro, but not lonely – a speck of dust in a huge, mysterious world. A quiet melancholy hangs over these forgotten places.
Movement is your main tool. Double jump, air dash, hovering, and a grappling hook let you reach new areas. The world is interconnected, opening up as you earn new abilities. Revisit older zones to rediscover hidden routes. The world tells its story through exploration: ruins hide secrets, investigation brings puzzles, and the environment exposes traces of what happened here. Your companion, AFX, travels with you and grows stronger as you progress. Combat blends melee strikes with ranged shots. Perfect your dodge timing to gain a tactical edge in fights.
As you travel, you’ll collect upgrades that improve both combat and mobility. Find new weapons in the ruins – each one changes how you approach encounters. Combat tests more than just your attack speed; it also tests your movement. Battle spaces function like movement puzzles. Mobility is just as important as your weapons.
Every area has its own atmosphere. Some are quiet and peaceful, while others pulse with strange energy. The game values calm moments and observation as much as action. By finding fragments of old technology, you can enhance yourself – and these upgrades change how you move through the world. You can choose freely which areas you want to explore. Calx is around 10 to 15 hours long, and it recalls classic action-adventure games.
Vast landscapes packed with crystal formations and ancient technology, shaped by visionary science-fiction art. Double jump, air dash, hovering, and grappling-hook mechanics that open new routes as you progress. A game that values stillness and observation as much as action. Gain new abilities to uncover hidden areas and discover secrets in places you’ve already visited. Combine melee attacks with AFX’s ranged shots. Perfect dodges for tactical advantages. Ruins and scenery tell you what happened, with minimal dialogue and maximum atmosphere. Collect remnants of ancient tech to improve combat and movement. Hypnotic visuals set the tone; music brings the art to life.
“When we set out to create Calx, our goal was to fully immerse players on a distant, alien planet. We wanted to bring back that feeling of isolation and discovery we got from games like Metroid and Hyper Light Drifter. That only works when every part of the game serves the same purpose: harmony between gameplay, art, and music. We hope players will find the journey to Syro worth it,” wrote game and narrative designer Gabriele Ferreccio in the press release.
Calx launches on June 4 for PC (and there’s a demo available now), with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch versions arriving later this year.
