Capcom Is Clearly Treating Switch 2 Better Than Anyone Else, and One of Its Best Games May Be Heading There Next

A Taiwanese ratings leak suggests that Devil May Cry 5 is finally on its way to Nintendo Switch 2 in a new edition. If that turns out to be true, Capcom will once again be showing that it is taking Nintendo’s new system far more seriously than most major publishers.

It is hardly unusual for ratings boards to reveal things before publishers are ready to make them official, and that seems to be exactly what may have happened again here. All signs now point to Capcom preparing to bring another one of its most beloved titles to Nintendo’s hybrid platform. After already surprising players with the remarkably strong performance of Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2, the company now looks set to move Devil May Cry 5 onto yet another system.

According to Gematsu, Devil May Cry 5 has appeared in the Taiwanese ratings board database as a new version called Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition, and the only platform listed is Switch 2. If confirmed, this would make it the fourth Devil May Cry title to land on the broader Nintendo Switch family. The first three games were released there back in 2019, while the fourth entry, the fifth game, and the Ninja Theory reboot never made the jump.

This looks like more than a simple port

The most interesting part of the leak is that it does not just mention Devil May Cry 5 by name, but specifically points to a new edition, which immediately raises the question of whether Capcom is planning extra content, or even a broader re-release on other platforms. It is worth remembering that Devil May Cry 5 originally launched in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It later received a Special Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, adding Vergil as a playable character, the Legendary Dark Knight mode, and Turbo Mode with the action sped up to 120 percent.

There are no concrete details yet on whether the Devil Hunter Edition includes all of that content, but it would make sense if this turned out to be a more complete package, even if that has not been confirmed yet. What is already obvious, though, is that Capcom is not treating Nintendo Switch 2 as a secondary afterthought. It is treating it like a serious platform. Beyond Resident Evil Requiem, the company has already brought Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess to the system, while Pragmata is also expected to arrive in April, and all of those efforts have been noted for being impressively well optimized.

The timing is also about as good as Capcom could ask for. With no brand-new Devil May Cry game on the horizon, the series is currently enjoying a strong surge of attention outside gaming. Netflix’s Devil May Cry anime was very well received in its first season, which pushed plenty of players back toward the games. Devil May Cry 5 reportedly sold more than one million additional copies in the months following the anime’s release, and Netflix is already building on that momentum, with season two set to premiere on May 12 and a new trailer already available. If Dante is going to make another run at Nintendo players, this is about as good a moment as any.
