CD Projekt RED is finally rolling out an update for Cyberpunk 2077, the first-person action-adventure game released over five years ago, for the mid-generation console upgrade.
The developers wanted to take advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s cutting-edge technology to bring 4K visuals, enhanced performance, advanced ray tracing, and more to the Cyberpunk 2077 experience. The goal was to bring out the best in both the hardware and the game to make Night City shine as brightly as possible. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, so anyone with a PlayStation 5 Pro can experience this enhanced version of the action role-playing game and strive to become a cyberpunk legend.
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscales each pixel using advanced artificial intelligence. The result is incredible: every inch of Night City comes to life, from the thermal katana to the gonks on the street to the supercharged sports cars. There is also an upgrade to the ray tracing technology. Lighting is a key aspect of the Cyberpunk 2077 aesthetic. The way Night City lights up as day turns to dusk and the streets glow under the neon signs of megacorps is integral to the game’s visual identity. With the PlayStation 5 Pro update, CDPR implemented BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support to improve ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections, making the lighting even closer to their artistic vision.
Imagine sunlight reflecting off the front fairing of our Yaiba Kusanagi CT-3X as we pull up and head down a dark, mysterious alley to uncover secrets glowing under the neon lights. Players’ overall immersion in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is seriously boosted by the PlayStation 5 Pro. The game offers three distinct modes that allow players to unlock an experience that suits them. Ray Tracing Pro delivers the most visually advanced version of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5 Pro, with ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows, and emissive lighting. This mode targets 40 FPS on variable refresh rate-enabled displays or 30 FPS otherwise.
Performance Mode focuses on delivering the highest possible frame rate for fast, fluid gameplay. On displays with VRR, Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5 Pro can reach up to 90 FPS while maintaining high image fidelity. Ray Tracing mode strikes a balance between visuals and performance. It features select ray tracing enhancements while maintaining a smooth 60 FPS, providing improvements across the board.
At least Cyberpunk 2077 now supports the PlayStation 5 Pro.
