To celebrate reaching 5 million sales, Pearl Abyss is boosting the game’s replayability with the 1.5 update.
The update is available on all platforms except the Mac App Store, where it will arrive later. The most significant new feature of the update is the long-awaited Rematch system. This system allows players to re-battle any of the game’s 69 main enemies at any time. To do so, players must light their lantern at the site of the previous encounter and read the Memory Fragment. The system launches with three modes: Reminisce, which recreates the battle exactly as it was the first time, and Resonate, which adjusts the boss’s stats based on the player’s current progress. If the player has become stronger since the original encounter, the boss will be more challenging. Any consumables used during the rematches are fully restored afterward, and there is no loot; therefore, this is more of a pure test of skill than a farming tool.
Additionally, Pearl Abyss introduced the Re-blockades system, which allows enemy factions to reoccupy previously liberated forts, thereby restoring combat opportunities to areas that had fallen quiet. Players can control how often this occurs using the three frequency settings, Stable, Conflict, and War, which are available in the game settings menu. Thirteen factions are capable of launching new blockades against twenty-two forts and quarries at the start of the game. The developers have stated that they will continue to develop and refine both systems over time.
The update also allows players to keep legendary creatures as permanent pets, adding a collection and social element to encounters with the game’s most memorable foes. In terms of graphics, Update 1.5 adds built-in support for Nvidia Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation technology on PCs with GeForce RTX 5000 graphics cards, as well as a new anti-aliasing option for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles via the Nvidia Streamline SDK 2.11.1.
The update finally fixes two critical progression bugs. One bug caused legendary horses to die immediately after being summoned. The other bug caused companions’ trust levels to reset randomly. The update also includes numerous combat fluidity fixes, control improvements, and user interface enhancements.
Crimson Desert recently surpassed the remarkable milestone of selling five million copies across all platforms, and the Korean developer rewarded each of its employees with a $3,400 bonus. Pearl Abyss also announced that it sold CCP Games, developer of EVE Online, to CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson for approximately $120 million.
