[SOP 2026] Onimusha: Way of the Sword – Musashi Returns in September, and the Demo Is Already Out! [VIDEO]

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 25, and Capcom has already released a free demo. The returning series puts Miyamoto Musashi at the center of the action, moving from Kiyomizu-dera Temple to Mount Oe, where Genma forces, Sasaki Ganryu, and Musashi’s full Oni Warrior awakening all take the spotlight.

Capcom has given Onimusha: Way of the Sword a firm date: September 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The announcement did not stop at a release window, because the demo is already available on all three platforms. That matters for a comeback like this. The Onimusha name still carries weight, but nostalgia alone is not enough. Players need to feel the sword, the timing, the impact, and the difference between an old series being revived and an old logo simply being pushed back into circulation.

The demo takes players to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, where Musashi faces his first serious trials. The battle against Sasaki Ganryu is a strong showcase because it does not teach the combat inside a sterile training arena. It throws the player into a personal, stylish duel where rhythm and reaction matter immediately. Anyone who plays the demo will also receive the Kubi Akari charm in the full game, so the trial version works both as a test and as a small reward for early interest.

The latest trailer also reveals Mount Oe, a location outside Kyoto where a massive Genma claiming to be Shuten Doji has built its stronghold. Musashi does not rely only on steel here. He uses supernatural speed and strength to break through the fortress’ defenses, while the trailer closes with a glimpse of him fully awakening as an Oni Warrior. That is a clear signal that the demonic side of the series is not being treated as background flavor, but as part of the new game’s identity.

The pre-order lineup is split into three editions. The Standard Edition includes the base game, the Lion Dog charm, and the Sealed Curse sword appearance. The Deluxe Edition adds more charms, extra sword appearances, a Musashi outfit, and an Oni Gauntlet variation. The Premium Deluxe Edition expands the package with additional haori costumes, Okuni and Oni Lady outfits, and an in-game mini digital soundtrack.

Capcom notes that the demo’s performance does not reflect the final game, and an official PC benchmark tool will arrive later. That is a cautious warning, but it does not weaken the announcement. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is no longer just a long-awaited return. It is playable now, dated for September, and backed by a demo whose job is simple: keep the blade hot until launch.
