Pew Research Center‘s latest research brought up an interesting result. This is about gaming in general and console ownership: 42% of them were women, who admitted that they own consoles (Xboxes and PlayStations apparently – where are the the Nintendo platforms…?). Meanwhile, men’s ratio was only just 37% in the research.
Out of 10, 4 people owns a console at home – this ratio is the same as it was five years ago, the last time this research was done. The handheld ownership ratio is equal between both sexes, but Pew did not really go into detailing what qualifies as a handheld – PlayStation Portable and „SEGA Genesis player” platforms were mentioned as examples, but we have absolutely no idea what the second could be.
It can be just an emulator on a smart phone, becuase that platform is really easy to be run nowadays…
One more question: men’s 59% admitted to be gamers, while women’s ratio is 41%. This is one area where males are in the lead, but who knows, maybe admitting feels like a shame to do so? No need to be.
First, they steal our heart, then they steal our console…
And the photographer of the stock image used on this post steals their clothes so that an idea of what it means to have more women playing video games can be conveyed.
