The Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Director Is Not Waiting for GTA 6, but One Thing Still Has His Attention

Guillaume Broche, the creative director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is not counting down the days until Grand Theft Auto VI arrives. Rockstar’s new game does not promise the kind of experience he personally looks for, but the sheer scale of the project means he cannot ignore it completely. What interests him is not the open-world crime fantasy itself, but what the studio will do with such an extraordinary development budget.

Broche discussed his gaming habits during an episode of Konbini’s Jeux Vidéo Club, where the conversation eventually turned to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The Sandfall Interactive boss did not try to soften his view: Rockstar’s open-world games simply do not fit his taste, even though they rank among the industry’s biggest and most successful releases. He explained that he typically enters a GTA game, activates cheat codes, pushes the chaos as far as possible, and then finds himself ready to leave after around half an hour. It is a striking admission from the leader of a studio that recently delivered one of the most discussed role-playing games in the industry.

His approach to GTA 6 is not built around the kind of anticipation most fans associate with the series either. Broche said he wants to see what Rockstar achieves with a project of this scale, but that curiosity does not turn the game into a personal must-play for him. “I don’t get it, it bores me,” he said about his past experiences with GTA games.

The comment is not meant as a dismissal of Rockstar Games or the impact of Grand Theft Auto. Broche made clear that he is genuinely interested in the project from a technical and professional point of view, particularly because of the money, attention and expectation surrounding it. For him, however, this is outside observation rather than personal hype. The freedom, systems-driven chaos and player-led pacing of GTA games do not provide the type of experience he seeks, which is why the sixth instalment has not generated the same excitement for him that it has for millions of other players. Even so, when Grand Theft Auto VI finally arrives, Broche will be watching to see what Rockstar delivers with one of the most closely scrutinised developments in modern gaming.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently set to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Guillaume Broche is not waiting for his next favourite game, but for an answer to a much bigger question: what Rockstar can achieve when it unleashes one of the largest projects in the industry.
