We understand that he’s busy, but we’d still expect him to find a few hours to play Larian’s hit game.
Some people still haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3, the most successful game of 2023. At a recent concert, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way was asked about this. A fan named KatanaLuciana held up a large paper sign with the question written on it. She recorded the conversation and posted it on TikTok. One of the band members saw the sign and tapped Way on the shoulder between songs to ask for his opinion.
Way revealed that he had only played the first Baldur’s Gate game. He probably would have enjoyed the other two games as well and said that he had played the “Icewind Dale expansion” but ran out of time. He then asked the audience if they had played Baldur’s Gate 3 yet and if they thought the game was any good. He assumes it is since the first game was a lot of fun. It was the closest thing to playing D&D back then.
There’s plenty of evidence of his nerdy side: he’s been a D&D player for a long time; he once streamed Overwatch and talked about his love for D.Va; and he was a co-writer on the Umbrella Academy comic book series, which was later adapted into a Netflix series. However, we’re not sure if he’s ever spoken in detail about classic CRPGs before. He clearly knows his stuff, so we’ll forgive him for remembering Icewind Dale as an expansion rather than a standalone game. If he loved the classic Baldur’s Gate, imagine the impact Larian’s modern masterpiece would have on him. The studio quickly learned of Way’s interest and reached out to him to help right this wrong.

Larian asked Way on Twitter what he meant when he said that he hadn’t played the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 yet, since the studio has a code with his name on it in case he’d like to try it. Perhaps it’s time for Way to get a Steam Deck so he can play the game while touring?
