Did Halo Studios Try to Do Too Much in Too Little Time? [VIDEO]

Halo Studios, formerly known as 343 Industries, reportedly wanted to build a larger franchise around Master Chief, but failed.

The past decade has not been kind to the Halo brand. From the disappointing performance of Halo Infinite to the leadership issues plaguing Halo Studios, the series has gone through turbulent times in recent years. A new video has revealed further details about the company’s original plans for the series, which apparently included three new titles. The video also confirmed the studio’s uncertain future.

According to Rebs Gaming, Halo Studios had planned to release three new games over three years. However, managing multiple projects proved too challenging for management. Only Halo: Campaign Evolved made it into development; the other two titles, namely a new campaign and a Battle Royale game called Project Ekur, were ultimately canceled. The latter was a multiplayer Battle Royale game developed in Unreal Engine 5 that was originally conceived as an extraction shooter. However, since Halo: Campaign Evolved was still in its early stages, studio head Pierre Hintze instructed the team to focus on its development and canceled the Ekur project shortly thereafter. Additionally, work on the next campaign was supposed to begin alongside the multiplayer title. However, Halo Studios was unable to develop a suitable concept and couldn’t hire a director for the game.

Consequently, the project was left hanging. To make matters worse, Halo Studios isn’t currently developing any other campaign-based or multiplayer titles—only early concepts exist. Rebs Gaming also stated that the fate of the remakes is uncertain and that no one has heard anything about the rumored MMO. The future of Halo Studios is uncertain because there are no active projects in development, and the YouTuber believes we might see layoffs following the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved.
