Saber Interactive is reportedly set to unveil the previously announced and subsequently rebooted remake soon, so we’ll get to see some of it.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced some time ago but hasn’t yet been released, let alone properly showcased. Since then, the project has undergone a rather turbulent development process. Saber Interactive took over development from Aspyr Media, and the project remained silent until earlier this year, when Saber’s creative director, Tim Willits, confirmed that development was continuing, as we previously reported. According to the reliable insider source 100% Star Wars, the plan is still to showcase the game before the end of 2026 because development is progressing smoothly.
“Development on the game has not only been ramping up, but it’s also gone extremely smoothly over the past three years since Saber started from scratch. They have hired some of the industry’s top talent, and Saber is unified in its development efforts, pulling resources and talent from across the company,” the insider said in the video embedded below, addressing the possibility of the game launching in 2028.
Unfortunately, the insider says that the smooth development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake does not guarantee a 2028 release, given current industry developments. Nevertheless, the official re-reveal of the remake can’t be too far off. According to 100% Star Wars, the reveal is planned for this year. However, the insider believes it could be pushed back to 2027 to take advantage of the Star Wars Celebration event scheduled for April 1–4. This is just speculation, as the reveal is still scheduled for 2026. December’s The Game Awards could be the biggest stage for this highly anticipated presentation.
Despite the guaranteed changes brought by the remake, it will be interesting to see what the gameplay will be like, since the story of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is already well known. According to 100% Star Wars, the combat mechanics can be compared to a poor man’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, supplemented with the pause mechanics from the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. That alone is more than enough to make us excited about the game, as the series’ combat system is one of the best RPG combat systems of all time. It masterfully blends action and turn-based gameplay in a way that truly feels like a modernized version of the original BioWare game’s classic real-time-with-pause system.
But we still have to wait patiently.
