Sony has unveiled the PlayStation Plus Essential Monthly Games for August 2026, which will also be available to subscribers on the Extra and Premium plans. The three titles can be added to players’ game libraries from August 4 through August 31.

PlayStation continues to face substantial problems and widespread criticism over its planned decision to stop producing physical game discs in 2028. Sony has nevertheless made no changes to its business plans and continues updating its services according to its regular schedule. The company has now returned to social media to announce the PlayStation Plus Essential Monthly Games for August 2026. Combining zombie action, cooperative exploration and psychological horror, the three titles are also included with the higher Extra and Premium membership plans.

According to the official PlayStation Blog, the August PlayStation Plus Essential games can be claimed from August 4 through August 31. Sony is also adding another benefit to the monthly line-up, as every PS Plus subscriber will be able to claim the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls PlayStation Plus Pack for free beginning August 6. The pack contains cosmetic content created for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The monthly games must be added to a player’s library during the claim period and remain playable afterwards while that player maintains an active PlayStation Plus membership.

Players Are Preparing Another Boycott Against PlayStation

PlayStation players have not responded to the August PlayStation Plus Essential announcement with enthusiasm alone. Sony is facing another wave of criticism, while several users claim they have cancelled their PS Plus memberships to protest the company’s movement towards exclusively digital distribution. The community wants to make it clear that physical game discs should continue to exist in the future. Its latest initiative is a week-long “blackout” encouraging users not to play on any PlayStation console during the designated period.
