Argonaut Games is continuing what it started after bringing the first installment to modern platforms last year. A remastered version of the sequel is now on the way.
Like the first game, the sequel was developed by Argonaut Software. The studio is known for numerous titles, including Race Drivin’ for Game Boy, Star Fox and Stunt Race FX for SNES, Buck Bumble for Nintendo 64, Alien Resurrection for PlayStation, as well as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for PlayStation. These are only a few entries from a catalog spanning several decades. Fox Interactive once again published the game after the first installment, so Disney ultimately became the rights holder for most of those releases. However, Argonaut secured the rights to its platformer, which had originally begun as a Yoshi project.
Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos was originally released for PlayStation and PC. It first appeared on Sony’s console in August 1999, while the PC port launched in March 2000 and arrived in Europe that June. The remaster is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Xbox One is the only previous-generation platform omitted, which is understandable since the console turns 13 this year. Nintendo Switch 2 has also been left out, which is more unusual because Nintendo’s hardware was released last June.
The remaster does not yet have a release date, but we believe it could arrive either this fall, just ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on November 19, or in spring 2027. The latter window would allow it to avoid the flood of games currently scheduled for early 2027, with numerous titles set to launch in January and February.
Will Argonaut Games use assets from the canceled Dreamcast port? A version for SEGA’s console was originally planned, but the platform’s commercial failure prevented its release. Instead, a 2D adaptation arrived on Game Boy Color in 2001, which was a common practice at the time.
