Ron Gilbert has confirmed that a follow-up to the classic point-and-click adventure is now in development, sending Agents Ray and Reyes after the culprit behind another murder. Thimbleweed Park 2 will retain the humour, unconventional puzzles, and mysterious atmosphere of old LucasArts games, although its release is not planned until early 2028.

Agents Ray and Reyes are returning, while Ron Gilbert is once again developing a graphic adventure unmistakably shaped by the traditions of the classic LucasArts era. The Monkey Island co-creator has officially announced Thimbleweed Park 2, although the new project is not intended to function as a conventional sequel or a prequel. This time, the two investigators must identify a murderer as their case unfolds through amusing conversations, ingenious puzzles, and increasingly strange situations that combine comedy with mystery.

Gilbert confirmed the project through a post on his personal blog, where he also revealed that several members of the original development team are involved. Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, and Robert Megone are returning alongside other previous contributors. Considerable work still lies ahead, however, and the current plan is to release Thimbleweed Park 2 in early 2028.

According to its Steam page, Ray and Reyes will travel back to the fictional town of Thimbleweed Park to investigate a murder committed at Edmund Manor. The game follows the point-and-click structure associated with classic LucasArts adventures, requiring players to search for evidence, apply objects in thoroughly absurd ways, and solve original puzzles before they can uncover the killer’s identity.

“Everyone in the Manor is a suspect, and the killer will be confronted by our detectives. If you can find him. Spoiler: it’s not the butler,” reads the game’s Steam description. “At the end of another long, strange night in Thimbleweed Park, you’ll have more questions than answers. It’s not really a sequel. It’s not really a prequel. It’s more Thimbleweed Park, and it’ll be just as strange. And, just like last time, in a town like Thimbleweed Park, a dead body is the least of your problems.” Promotional images also show Franklin, Delores, and Ransome reacting to the announcement, although it remains unclear whether the returning characters will actually be playable.

Alongside the sequel’s announcement, Gilbert revealed that the original Thimbleweed Park is currently available at a substantial discount. Players who have yet to experience Ray and Reyes’ first investigation can purchase the game for 75% less on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Gilbert will continue documenting the development of Thimbleweed Park 2 through his personal blog, where future milestones and new details about the project are expected to appear.
