MOVIE NEWS – The horror film Other Mommy was born from the meeting of psychological thrillers and family dramas.

Its premise follows a seemingly stable and happy family whose everyday life is invaded by horror when buried shadows from the past suddenly rise to the surface. The story’s protagonist is forced to confront the devastating realization that even the people living closest to her may not necessarily be who they appear to be. Carefully measured suspicion and gradually unfolding secrets keep viewers in suspense until the very last moment.

The film is an adaptation of Josh Malerman’s successful 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. According to director Rob Savage, the project’s greatest appeal was the way the story completely overturns familiar horror-film clichés.

“With an average horror film, you know exactly when and what to prepare for. It is calculated that certain things have to happen in particular places and situations. This film, however, just like the book, surprises the viewer at every single moment,” Savage said.

Following the successful 2019 film It Chapter Two, Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain now shines in a dual role: she plays the mother, Ursula, as well as her paranormal double. Alongside the characters, viewers can constantly try to guess which mommy they are dealing with at any given moment…
