Xbox Is Getting Two Long-Awaited Upgrades, and Achievement Hunters Have the Most to Celebrate

Xbox Series X|S is preparing to add several new features involving captures, cloud saves, wish lists, and achievement management. The announcement attracting the most attention, however, came from Asha Sharma, who says Xbox could introduce its own equivalent of PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy before the end of this year.

The Xbox division is not currently experiencing one of the strongest periods in its history, but Asha Sharma has previously made it clear that regularly improving Series X|S remains one of the company’s primary commitments. Microsoft wants the consoles to receive new features every few weeks, which will be particularly welcome after a generation in which the current Xbox systems have gained relatively few major operating-system additions. The newly announced package covers several areas, although the most exciting development is aimed directly at dedicated achievement hunters.

According to Microsoft’s official announcement, members of the Xbox Insider program can already test features that provide greater control over gameplay captures, saved data, and wish lists. Some Insiders can now include voice-chat audio in their gameplay recordings for the first time, whether the conversation takes place in a private party or through a match’s general game chat. Every participant must provide clear and individual consent before their voice can be included in a recording.

Achievement histories are also becoming easier to navigate. Players will be able to arrange games by title, completion percentage, earned Gamerscore, or the number of achievements unlocked, using either ascending or descending order. Xbox is also adding the ability to restore earlier versions of cloud-synchronized saves directly from the console, although the feature currently supports only Forza Horizon 6. Microsoft plans to expand it to additional games later.

Wish lists are receiving a substantial capacity increase as well, allowing users to save as many as 1,000 games. Unlike some of the other additions, this improvement will be available to every Xbox player rather than only members of the Insider program. Microsoft has not announced an exact date for the broader rollout of the remaining features, but the testing schedule suggests they could become available to Series X|S owners during September.

Xbox’s Own Platinum-Style Reward Could Arrive This Year

The announcement that generated the greatest excitement did not appear in Microsoft’s official release, but in a response Asha Sharma posted on X. A player asked whether the Xbox achievement ecosystem would ever receive a special reward comparable to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy. Sharma replied that the team is already working on something it intends to deliver before the end of the year.

Xbox players have spent years requesting a badge or unique achievement that clearly recognizes the completion of every objective in a game. Under the current system, earning the full available Gamerscore does not provide a standardized and visually distinct reward comparable to a Platinum Trophy on PlayStation. Sharma’s message indicates that Microsoft could finally address that absence during 2026, although the feature’s name, design, and specific launch date remain unknown.

Its introduction could potentially be timed around major October or November releases, including Gears of War: E-Day and Grand Theft Auto VI. Beyond giving achievement hunters additional prestige, such a system could also offer indirect financial benefits because Microsoft Rewards already grants points for certain gaming activities and unlocked achievements.

Microsoft has not confirmed that earning its new 100% completion distinction will provide Rewards points. It would nevertheless fit naturally within the existing program if the accomplishment delivered a larger-than-usual bonus that could later be exchanged for gift cards, Game Pass subscriptions, or sweepstakes entries. For now, the only certainty is that Xbox is finally taking one of its community’s longest-standing requests seriously.
