Larian has once again shared some extremely interesting data about the best game of 2023, revealing some staggering numbers.
Baldur’s Gate 3 may be three years old, but it continues to produce impressive numbers. Not just in terms of player count, either. It is constantly generating statistics: how many deaths, how many murders, and how many times the Poo-Scraper weapon was used in combat. Larian proudly presents these statistics, which have become an annual tradition. The studio has highlighted the most unusual numbers generated by player behavior in Baldur’s Gate 3.
First, some standard stats: 500 million mod downloads and 13,000 uploaded mods. The story NPC who died most frequently in players’ games was the tiefling leader Zevlor, who died 12.3 million times, far ahead of the rest. Second place went to the wizard’s apprentice Rolan, who died 8.6 million times. Then come the bizarre things. The Nut-Buster, which is literally just a rock, was used twice in combat in the game’s Creche area. The Poo-Scraper, the blade belonging to the quasit Shovel, was used in combat four times during Chapter 3.
More than 30,000 players took on Netherbrain while drunk, but less than 1% managed to collect 180,000 gold in a single playthrough. Most puzzling of all, just over 9,000 players experienced the game in a 9:16 aspect ratio, meaning it was rotated 90 degrees as if they were playing on a mobile device. The worst statistic is that more players who did not choose the Dark Urge playstyle killed Alfira than those who did. Alfira is the kind, innocent bard we meet in the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Grove. If you play as Dark Urge, the game forces you to kill her during a cutscene, although you can technically avoid this with some metagaming.
But more players simply chose to kill her than were forced to do so by the game’s story. We think this is because many players who were not playing as Durge opted for an evil playthrough. Still, congratulations… it seems we are all monsters.
