MOVIE NEWS – Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to accumulate revenue at an extraordinary pace, crossing $1 billion worldwide in only six days. Tom Holland’s latest Marvel movie has already surpassed the entire domestic run of Avatar: Fire and Ash, although it still needs several hundred million dollars to overtake James Cameron’s sequel globally.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day demonstrated during its opening weekend that it would not merely become another successful superhero movie, but one of the largest theatrical events in cinema history. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the production established a new record in North America while also generating enormous interest throughout international markets. It crossed the global $1 billion milestone after only six days, something only one previous movie accomplished more quickly.
Avengers: Endgame remains in first place after requiring only five days to reach $1 billion in 2019. The six-day performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day nevertheless places it ahead of the pace established by Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and numerous other historic blockbusters.
The movie opened with approximately $360 million in the United States and Canada, establishing a new domestic weekend record. Its earnings continued climbing beyond $400 million during the following days, allowing the Marvel release to surpass the entire North American run of Avatar: Fire and Ash in less than one week. James Cameron’s third Avatar movie earned roughly $400 million in that market throughout its complete theatrical release.
The Global Avatar Record Is Still Further Away
The international comparison is less straightforward. Avatar: Fire and Ash completed its theatrical run with nearly $1.5 billion worldwide, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day had earned a little more than $1 billion when the report was published. Holland’s movie therefore still needs approximately $400 million to $450 million to surpass Cameron’s sequel on the complete global chart.
That target does not appear unrealistic after such a record-breaking debut. The more important question is how sharply the movie declines during its second and third weekends and whether it can maintain momentum in international territories where Marvel and Spider-Man traditionally perform exceptionally well. An unusually large drop could slow its progress, but its current pace suggests that the final total of the third Avatar movie is genuinely within reach.
The next major target may be the approximately $1.9 billion generated by Spider-Man: No Way Home. That earlier installment achieved its historic performance during the post-pandemic period and without a theatrical release in China. Because Brand New Day started more quickly, it could potentially enter the exclusive $2 billion club, although doing so would require extraordinarily strong audience interest long after its opening weekend.
The film’s performance already represents a major victory for Sony and Marvel Studios. Spider-Man has once again demonstrated that he remains one of the world’s most powerful theatrical brands, while Holland has gained another blockbuster that could secure his position at the center of the MCU for many years. The only remaining question is how high the final total will climb.
