The Japanese company is clearly striving to make the most of Nintendo’s current-generation hardware with this port – hopefully it will run well.
Capcom has already proven with the Street Fighter 6 port that it can harness the Nintendo Switch 2’s performance down to the finest details, resulting in an exceptional port. However, the real test will be Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds, two open-world games powered by the RE Engine that have long struggled to run smoothly even on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Although there are still no concrete details about the former, data-mining information suggests that the Japanese publisher is preparing to release another impressive port.
NSW2 Wilds potentially running at 1080p-1440p docked, 720p-864p handheld and targetting 40-30 FPS

The files for the latest game update contain new information regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 port. In docked mode, the game will use dynamic resolution scaling in the 1080p-to-1440p range. While Nvidia DLSS will likely help the system significantly by upscaling lower internal resolutions, it will still be impressive to see such a demanding game reach 1440p, even if it does so only during less demanding scenes.
In handheld mode, Monster Hunter Wilds will not take full advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2 display’s native resolution, as the dynamic resolution range will be limited to between 720p and 864p, which is still quite impressive. Additionally, files from the new update reveal that the game may support a frame rate of up to 40 FPS. Thanks to the display’s support for variable refresh rate, or VRR, this could provide a somewhat smoother experience in handheld mode. Unfortunately, the system does not support this feature while docked.
Rumors that Monster Hunter Wilds for Nintendo Switch 2 was in development emerged late last year, but official confirmation of the port did not arrive until June. However, based on the new information discovered in the latest update, the game’s release may no longer be far away. Regardless of when it launches, Nintendo Switch 2 owners may receive a much better gaming experience than PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC players did at launch, thanks to the additional monsters and the refined endgame. This addressed one of the community’s main complaints, namely the low difficulty level.
Ultimately, director Yuya Tokuda and his team’s hard work has paid off, successfully bringing back players who had abandoned the game, just as he had hoped. With the Ascendance expansion, the latest installment in the series promises to become even bigger and perhaps even better.
