GAMING NEWS – Just one month after launch, a fan-made mod has restored unarmed combat to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The Nexus Mods creation lets Edward Kenway fight with his fists again, although the community fix still has one noticeable limitation.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced arrived as an impressive-looking remake that adds several ideas to the original pirate adventure. Its heavily rebuilt combat system also removed a surprising number of familiar options, however, including some Hidden Blade functionality and the ability to fight without a weapon.

Players may disagree over whether the broader combat overhaul improves the game, but many found the loss of fist-fighting especially difficult to understand. Ubisoft previously offered explanations for the missing mechanics and may even have hinted that some could return, yet one modder decided not to wait for an official solution.

The Nexus Mods community fixed it within a month

Since Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9, a healthy modding scene has formed around the game on Nexus Mods. One of its newest and most popular additions was created by kamzik123 and has a deliberately straightforward name: “Unarmed Combat.”

With the mod installed, Edward can attack and defeat enemies using only his fists. No gameplay video has been released yet, but TheGamer suggests that the creator may have unlocked or repurposed the fist-fighting system already used during the tavern brawl.

There is also one equipment requirement. Players must select the Officer Small Swords before Edward will raise his fists and adopt the correct unarmed stance.

Sword animations still appear during finishers

The fan-made restoration is not completely seamless. Its description confirms that finishing moves continue to use sword animations, so Edward does not yet knock out opponents with the same polished techniques seen in the original Black Flag.

That understandable drawback means an official Ubisoft update could still offer a more complete solution. Even so, the mod shows how strongly fans missed the removed feature: it took the community less than a month to bring at least a functional version of unarmed combat back to the remake.
